In the midst of a lengthening list of issues that need solutions we’re a group of locals who work to make things better here and beyond. We do what we can do. We’ve focussed on housing, food provision and heating in winter here. We give to the Community Chest, St Ambrose care, the Neighbourhood House Foodbank and it’s community lunch.
We run our own show; markets and art shows are our earners. We award primary and secondary school scholarships. We funded a free skin check bus this April that checked over 200 folk and found concerns that needed follow up in 40%. We are part of a bigger collective that funds aid in international crises, health research and targeted local relief to build/rebuild communities. A lot of the public infrastructure you see around the town was built or funded by the Lions. We sold habitat boxes for wildlife after the big storm .
Our annual Christmas carols at the community centre, singers on a sound stage n free food is always joyous. Our annual Art Show is well worth a look , it’s showcase for local art from across the community.
Though we’ve been in Woodend for over 50 years we are a group with a range of ages who meet monthly to plan, plot, socialise and dream. There is space, in fact a need, for new members to keep the effort going. As the people who’ve been around the longest slow , new ones step up. We turn up and do what needs to be done. We’re ready for new ideas. We meet the second Wednesday of each month over a meal. ( ring 0409414435)
